As Winter season is upon us and snow starts to fly , we are relying more on our heat pumps for heating our homes .

Heat pumps need room around them to allow proper air flow through unit so it can produce desired amount of heat for your space , after snow fall check you heat pump to ensure at 12″ of air space on left side and rear is clear of snow , if not gently remove snow being careful not to damage fins which will diminish air flow through heat pump , when most of snow is removed use a brush to remove remainder without damage.

It is just as important to keep snow/ice away from base of heat pump , if snow builds up close to base when heat pump defrosts it will create a layer of ice , if the ice gets to base of heat pump water has no where to drain and could freeze up base of heat pump and cause pressure on coil and prevent maximum air flow through heat pump.
